Job description

Flight Test Technician (MQ-4 Triton)

Location: Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. This position requires up to 35% CONUS/OCONUS travel.

Job Description:The Flight Test Technician will perform developmental, experimental, and production aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and testing tasks in electrical/electronic, mechanical, or instrumentation specialties. Responsibilities include working from engineering orders, blueprints, schematics, and technical documents; drilling, reaming, fitting, assembling, and conducting quality checks; maintaining complex equipment and systems; coordinating with flight test personnel; and ensuring compliance with production accountability and safety standards. The candidate may also support ground support equipment, facilities, or hangar operations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and testing tasks in electrical/electronic, mechanical, or instrumentation specialties.
  • Instruct, coordinate, and execute duties of flight test personnel in assigned areas.
  • Determine sequences for installing, removing, and maintaining critical aircraft components or systems.
  • Apply shop theory and skills to complete tasks from engineering data and technical orders.
  • Perform drilling, reaming, fitting, assembly, trimming, riveting, splicing, insulating, and other related duties.
  • Conduct maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation systems for flight test projects.
  • Construct, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, test, and maintain complex aircraft equipment, components, and systems.
  • Notify lead personnel of malfunctions, defects, or damages.
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of work.
  • Execute production accountability duties, including verification, quality audit, and inspection of assemblies, parts, and tooling.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including ground support equipment and hangar operations.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 4 years of flight test technician or related experience; OR associate’s degree with at least 2 years of similar experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required; ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance.
  • Physical ability to perform moderately to strenuous work, including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, and working outdoors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Triton/Global Hawk (BETTIE Qualified) experience.
  • Triton/Global Hawk production, modification, or operations experience.
  • Avionics/electrical background.
  • Airframes, structures, or composites experience.
SkillBridge Program Participation

Eligible service members will receive 40‑hour per week training on the job, conduct hands‑on experience similar to the Flight Test Technician role, and may be considered for a full‑time position upon completion.

Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $66,600.00 - $111,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $79,100.00 - $131,900.00
