Job summary

Solitude Mountain Resort is seeking an Avalanche Mitigation Technician Specialist for the Seasonal Full-Time Patrol team. The role focuses on avalanche rescue, mitigation techniques, training, explosive handling, and terrain management under supervision.

It is a non-supervisory, field-heavy position. Requirements include Patroller status at Solitude, Avalanche Pro 1 certification, 4 years ski patrol experience, 3 years avalanche mitigation at a class A resort, and strong communication and

• Avalanche rescue skills required for mountain operations.
• Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller and possess solid leadership.
• Experience in avalanche mitigation and rescue at a resort preferred.
• Strong communication and understanding of Solitude operations.

Responsibilities

• Assists in training ski patrollers in avalanche rescue and mitigation techniques.
• Manages inventories of explosives and caches per policy and ATF regulations.
• Forecasts avalanche danger and helps mitigate hazards.
• Collects field data on snow, weather, and avalanche conditions.
• Assists in terrain opening decisions based on hazard forecasts.
• Maintains aerial trams, rope lines, and signage across the resort.
• Supports setup/teardown of remote weather stations and leads avalanche response teams when needed.
• Participates in inter-agency rescue efforts as required.

The position involves a significant amount of field work. The Avalanche Mitigation Technician Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Avalanche Mitigation Manager, Avalanche Mitigation Assistant Supervisor, and Patrol Manager. This position requires strong interpersonal relationship skills.
