Job summary

Powderhorn Resort is seeking a Ski Instructor to provide professional instruction for guests of all ages and abilities throughout the season. You will teach skiing and snowboarding, ensure equipment is appropriate, and deliver a safe, enjoyable learning experience on Powderhorn terrain.

This outdoor role requires PSIA or AASI certification, seasonal safety training, and the ability to work in temperature extremes at high altitude.

Qualifications

  • PSIA or AASI Certification required.
  • Seasonal Orientation and Safety Training completed.
  • Outdoor work at altitude and in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fun, safe skiing/snowboarding lessons to guests of all ages.
  • Teach at multiple levels and ensure equipment is adequate and comfortable.
  • Follow PSIA/AASI standards and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate lesson timing with check-in and other activities.
  • Assist in setting up and running special events when needed.

Position/Title: Ski InstructorFLSA Designation: Hourly Non-ExemptDepartment: Ski/Ride Center DepartmentReports To: SRC Supervisor / ManagerDate Created: 10/01/2025Created By: Director of Skier ServicesPosition SummarySki InstructorThe primary role of the position is to provide professional instruction of skiing and/or snowboarding to guests of all ages, levels and abilities throughout the season.Primary Responsibilities/Duties· Provide guests with a fun, safe, enjoyable and memorable learning experience while exploring appropriate terrain at Powderhorn· Teach skiing and snowboarding to toddlers, children, teenagers and adults at various levels· Conduct lessons according to the standards set out by Professional Ski Instructors of America / American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA / AASI)· Be knowledgeable of timing needed for lifts and teaching terrain so instructors are prompt for check-in and other lessons· Be knowledgeable of the programs Powderhorn offers and carry prices and maps to share with guests· Know and teach the Skier’s Responsibility Code· Ensure students’ equipment is adequate and comfortable· Assist in setting-up and running special events when needed· Know the safety procedures for missing or injured students and guests· Use proper radio etiquette when issued a portable radio· Read and adhere to all instructions and policies in the Powderhorn Seasonal Employee Handbook· Provide guidance for appropriate terrain to pursue· Other duties as assignedCore Skills· Intermediate or above skier and/or snowboarder· Honest, friendly, and enthusiastic customer service skills· Safety focus in all aspects of job· Enjoy working with the public· Easily adapt to change in the workplace· Must have excellent customer service and communication skills· Ability to work well with the public.Computer Skills· None requiredCertifications· PSIA or AASI Certification· Seasonal Orientation· All Safety Training related to position, including company-wide safety process and proceduresWork EnvironmentThis position is based outside and is exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (8200 + feet).
