Job summary

Bend Park & Recreation District is seeking a part-time Facility Monitor to help manage public use of our skating facilities, enforce rules, and ensure safety and courtesy for patrons. The role emphasizes ice-skating safety, incident response, and clear communication with visitors.

Responsibilities include monitoring activity, assisting with program setup, and maintaining cleanliness and order while training is provided. Evening and weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

  • First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Ability to pass skate skill test.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

About the job:

The Facility Monitor is responsible for facilitating and monitoring public use of recreation facilities and/or assisting with programs, ensuring safe and enjoyable experiences.

A day in the life:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitors skaters’ activity while on the ice and facility support spaces.
  • Informs and educates skaters on rules and appropriate etiquette.
  • Enforces facility rules and regulations.
  • Recognizes potential emergencies and manage incidents according to safety protocols.
  • Assists with program needs and facility set up.
  • Performs cleaning, maintenance and organization tasks. Serves as locker room attendant.
  • Communicates with patrons and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Sets-up and breaks-down equipment and facilities.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment.
  • Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedure.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Schedule and Hours:

Start date: October 6, 2026. All staff training October 8, 2026

Available shifts:

Sunday: 12:15pm- 3:30pm

Tuesday: 6:15pm-8:30pm

Wednesday: 12:45pm- 3:00pm

Friday: 2:00pm-4:15pm and/or 6:15pm-8:15pm

Saturday: 12:00-4:00pm and/or 6:00pm-8:30pm

Some weekday day time shifts also available.

Requirements
What you’ll need for success:
Strong Knowledge of:
  • Ice skating safety, first aid and basic life support.
Skill and Ability to
  • Effectively communicate with patrons, staff and volunteers;
  • Pass a skate skill test;
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts;
  • Handle stressful working conditions and emergencies; wear appropriate attire to actively participate in all activities.
What we’re looking for:
Minimum Education, Experience, and Training
  1. High school graduation or equivalent, or currently attending high schoolAND
  2. Some previous volunteer or work experience with the public preferred;OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
Certification:
  1. First Aid/CPR
Supervision Received:

Work under the general supervision of a Program Coordinator or Rec Center Supervisor. Work under direct program supervision of the Supervisor on Duty.

Supervision Exercised:

Supervision is not a responsibility of this position.

Working Conditions:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Depending on job assignment, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures.
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to walk and stand for sustained periods of time with frequent climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling, and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies and set-up and break-down equipment and facilities.
  • Exposure to large crowds, uncooperative or difficult individuals, exposure to illness, and periods of continuous demand.
