Responsibilities include partnering with SIU teams, researching and litigating fraud actions (including RICO), and handling depositions, motions, and court appearances in State and Federal Courts. JD required and NY Bar admission preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Bar admission in New York State is required.
• Fraud/insurance-related litigation experience is preferred.

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an SIU Litigation Attorney with at least two years of experience for its Melville, NY office. The ideal candidate will have a passion for combatting fraud against the insurance industry and will utilize strong litigation and investigative talents to defend against fraudulent claims and bring affirmative actions.

Duties

• Partner with SIU departments to defend against fraudulent claims.
• Research, prepare, file, and litigate fraud actions, including RICO and other affirmative actions.
• Prepare litigation strategies and negotiate complex matters.
• Review file assignments and strategize for resolution.
• Propound discovery and draft motions, memorandums, and legal briefs.
• Prepare for and conduct depositions and examinations under oath.
• Attend arbitrations, mediations, and trials, including expert witnesses.
• Prepare and conduct court appearances in State and Federal Court.
• Draft pre and post-trial motions in Federal and State Courts.
• Negotiate settlements and draft related documents.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of litigation experience.
• Strong legal writing and negotiation skills.
• Experience with fraud and insurance-related litigation preferred.

Education

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
