Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Sitter (Patient Observer) at Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite, TX. The role provides continuous one-on-one observation to patients at risk, under RN supervision, with emphasis on safety and comfort.

Shifts are days, full-time employment status, with an emphasis on non-clinical patient support. Front-line responsibilities include monitoring, timely communication with the nursing staff, and assisting with basic comfort tasks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
• Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.
• Within 90 days be eligible to participate in a C.N.A. Training program.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant visual observation of the assigned patient under RN supervision.
• Provide continuous one-on-one observation and support to patients at risk.
• Communicate patient activity and behavior regularly to the nurse.
• Assist with non-clinical needs and comfort measures as needed.
• Help maintain a calm and safe environment for patient and staff.
• Escort and support patients, families, and healthcare team as required.

Hours: 8-hour shifts – 6:45am to 7:15pm

Location: Dallas Regional Medical Center – Mesquite, TX

We are seeking a Sitter, also referred to as a Patient Observer. The Sitter in our hospital provides continuous one-on-one observation and support to patients who require close monitoring to ensure their safety. Sitters do not perform clinical procedures but play a vital role in patient safety and support, especially for patients with cognitive impairment, delirium, or high fall risk.

Responsibilities

Work under the supervision of a RN, the patient sitter maintains constant visual observation of the assigned patient, assists in ensuring a safe and clean environment, communicates patient activity and behavior regularly to the nurse, interacts professionally and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team members, and provides support to peers and staff.

• Continuously observes patients who are at risk of harming themselves or others, such as those who are confused, agitated, or medically unstable

• Ensures patient safety by preventing falls, wandering, or removing medical devices like IV lines or catheters

• Provides companionship and reassurance to help reduce patient anxiety and agitation

• Communicates any changes in patient behavior or condition promptly to nursing staff or the healthcare team

• Assists with non-clinical needs such as helping patients with basic comfort measures or calling for assistance

• Helps maintain a calm and safe environment for both the patient and staff
