Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced on-site Construction Superintendent to lead federal design-build renovation efforts in Washington, DC. You will coordinate daily activities across occupied facilities, enforce contract requirements, and drive safety, quality, and schedule adherence with subcontractors and field teams.

The role requires 10+ years of construction experience, including 5+ years as a superintendent on complex federal projects, plus US citizenship and security-clearance

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of construction experience, including at least 5 years as a superintendent on projects of similar size and complexity.
  • Demonstrated superintendent experience on federal design-build renovation projects; USACE or Department of Defense project experience strongly preferred.
  • Relevant experience with secure ICD/ICS 705 projects, including SCIF or comparable controlled-space construction and multidisciplinary building systems coordination.
  • Working knowledge of UFGS 01 45 00.00 10 quality control, USACE three-phase control, EM 385-1-1, OSHA requirements, and federal construction documentation practices.
  • Ability to interpret critical path schedules, construction drawings, specifications, submittals, coordination drawings, and secure-construction requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead subcontractors and field teams while maintaining safety, quality, schedule, security, and customer-service standards.
  • Fluent English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance and installation access required for the assignment.
  • Ability to work full-time on site in Washington, DC and remain on site whenever contract work is in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate daily on-site construction activities, subcontractors, suppliers, deliveries, inspections, and work sequencing across occupied, access-controlled federal facilities.
  • Manage day-to-day production against the approved critical path schedule; lead short-interval planning, identify constraints, support schedule updates and recovery plans, and ensure approved manpower or work-hour changes are visible in the field and documented.
  • Read and enforce contract drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, design changes, quality requirements, and secure-construction details; promptly elevate conflicts or changed conditions.
  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager, Quality Control Manager, Site Safety and Health Officer, design team, security personnel, USACE representatives, Government stakeholders, subcontractors, and facility users.
  • Support the USACE three-phase quality control process; attend preparatory, initial, follow-up, partnering, schedule, and quality control meetings; verify that definable features of work are ready before release.
  • Maintain responsibility for the quality and production of all construction activities at the site, track deficiencies and punch-list work, and participate in final acceptance inspections.
  • Implement and enforce the accepted Accident Prevention Plan and Activity Hazard Analyses in partnership with the designated SSHO and QCM; sign required safety documents and immediately correct unsafe or noncompliant conditions.
  • Maintain site logistics, access controls, housekeeping, temporary protections, outage coordination, hot-work and other permits, material staging, and protection of historic building elements and ongoing operations.
  • Coordinate secure-area work, badging, access, and cleared escorts; protect CUI and follow the project security requirements, DD Form 254 direction, and customer/site procedures.
  • Ensure accurate daily field documentation, including manpower, work performed, constraints, inspections, deliveries, incidents, progress, and schedule impacts; provide timely information for RMS/QC daily reporting.
  • Attend the preconstruction conference and all required coordination meetings; communicate fluently in English with Government representatives, subcontractors, trades, and project staff.
  • Lead the project through commissioning support, training, closeout documentation, punch completion, and final Government acceptance.
