Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join our federal team supporting the Minot Air Force Base in Minot, ND.

Pay range: $75,000 - $95,000. Negotiable based on experience.

Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment. Vacation: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per calendar year (6.5 weeks in total). Travel: Limited. Primary work is based at the Minot Air Force Base.

Responsibilities
  • Implement the Site/Task Specific Safety Program for this location, including creation of each task order required Site Specific Accident Prevention Plans (APP) & Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).
  • Oversee and authorize procurement of project safety supplies and equipment; implement site safety training of JCFS direct employees and subcontractor safety training.
  • Act as designated on‑site competent person and Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO), as defined by The Army Corps of Engineers EM 385-1-1 standards.
  • Enforce safety directives per JCFS Safety Program, site‑specific APPs and EM 385-1-1.
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections; conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports; maintain the OSHA form 300.
  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution; ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Provide leadership and facilitate the Office Safety Committee at the local level.
  • Develop professional working relationships with government and subcontractor safety organizations.
  • Establish initiatives to enhance the JCFS safety program.
  • Own/Accountable for Safety Execution within the assigned project location.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • 30‑hour OSHA Construction Safety Class within the past 5 years and demonstrated continuing Safety training thereafter (8 hours per year) or the ability to obtain OSHA 30‑hour certification within first 30 days of employment.
  • Construction safety inspection and administration experience. 5+ years preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and badges as required for the sites being supported.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, USACE safety regulations (EM-385-1-1), NAVFAC, ANSI, NFPA 70-E, and other State and Federal regulatory standards.
  • Experience in safety program implementation and oversight, and/or facilities operations and maintenance.
  • Experience writing and implementing site specific safety plans; Accident Prevention Plans (APP), Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), etc.
  • Competent Person level trainer for Fall Protection/Electrical/Confined Space/Asbestos, etc.
  • Demonstrates commitment to safety principles and safe work practices; adherence to established standards and procedures. Accepts responsibility for own safety as well as that of others.
  • Able to recognize hazards and identify controls to mitigate or eliminate those hazards.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 500 or 510 – Trainer course for construction.
  • EM-385-1-1 40 hour Training Course.
