Summary

The Site Safety Officer is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of the company’s safety and health program at a specific project site. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, and works closely with project management, subcontractors, and workers to maintain a safe jobsite environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversees and enforces the project site safety program in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts daily site safety inspections and documents findings.
  • Identifies and addresses unsafe conditions, practices, or hazards in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates daily or weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks with project personnel.
  • Ensures all employees and subcontractors have received appropriate site‑specific safety orientations and training.
  • Maintains accurate safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident logs, training records, and safety meeting minutes.
  • Assists in accident / incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow‑up corrective actions.
  • Serves as the on‑site point of contact for OSHA and other regulatory agency inspections.
  • Monitors subcontractor compliance with safety plans and requirements.
  • Supports the implementation of emergency response procedures for the site.
  • Coordinates with the Project Manager and Corporate Safety Director on safety concerns, incidents, and compliance updates.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through engagement, observation, and proactive communication with field crews.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Models and reinforces safety as a top priority at all times, including consistent use of PPE.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with project team members, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Stays informed on current safety regulations and best practices applicable to the project scope.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety regulations (OSHA 29 CFR 1926) and company safety policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate safety requirements to workers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Strong observation, hazard recognition, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic project documentation software.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of safety experience in construction, preferably in a water / wastewater, heavy civil, or industrial setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • OSHA 30‑hour Construction Safety and Health required.
  • CHST or other recognized safety certification preferred.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification required.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, stoop, kneel, and work at heights or in confined spaces as required by the project.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Work in varying outdoor weather conditions and around construction hazards.
Work Environment
  • Primary work location is an active construction site, with exposure to noise, dust, heavy equipment, and other jobsite hazards.
  • The position requires daily field presence and frequent interaction with craft workers and subcontractors.
