Site Safety Manager

Position Summary

Royal Concrete and Masonry is seeking an experienced and proactive Site Safety Manager to oversee safety programs across all company job sites, yards, and facilities. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies company‑wide, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations, and fostering a strong culture of safety among field crews, subcontractors, and management. The ideal candidate will travel regularly between active job sites to conduct inspections, training, and audits, serving as the primary safety authority across all company operations.

Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Development & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain company‑wide safety policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with OSHA (federal and state), EPA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations across every active jobsite.
  • Maintain and update the company’s written Safety Program, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Site‑Specific Safety Plans.
  • Stay current on changes in construction, concrete, and masonry safety regulations and industry best practices.
Site Inspections & Risk Management
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits across all active job sites company‑wide.
  • Identify hazards related to concrete/masonry operations (scaffolding, rigging, silica exposure, heavy equipment, fall protection, trenching/excavation, crane operations, etc.) and implement corrective actions.
  • Investigate accidents, near‑misses, and safety violations; prepare detailed incident reports and root‑cause analyses.
  • Track and analyze safety data/metrics (incident rates, TRIR, DART, etc.) to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Training & Culture
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new‑hire orientation, OSHA 10/30, toolbox talks, and equipment‑specific certifications.
  • Train site supervisors and foremen to conduct daily safety briefings and hazard assessments.
  • Promote a positive, proactive safety culture across all crews, subcontractors, and office staff.
  • Recognize and address unsafe behaviors through coaching, retraining, or disciplinary recommendations as needed.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping (Forms 300, 300A, 301) and ensure timely, accurate incident reporting.
  • Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to executive leadership.
  • Manage documentation for certifications, permits, inspections, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers and workers’ compensation representatives on claims and safety audits.
Equipment & Site Readiness
  • Oversee proper use, inspection, and maintenance of PPE, fall protection systems, and safety equipment across all sites.
  • Ensure equipment (mixers, forklifts, cranes, saws, lifts) meets safety standards and operators are properly certified.
  • Coordinate emergency action plans and ensure all sites are equipped with proper signage, first aid, and emergency response resources.
Qualifications
Required
  • 5+ years of experience in construction safety management, preferably within concrete, masonry, or heavy civil construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926) and general industry standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly between job sites.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active construction sites.
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.
  • Experience specifically with concrete/masonry hazards (silica exposure, formwork, rigging, scaffolding).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred due to diverse field crews.
  • NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) Site Safety Manager (SSM) license a plus, not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk active job sites, climb ladders/scaffolding, and work at various heights.
  • Ability to lift up to 25–50 lbs as needed.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Regional travel required (percentage to be defined based on active project locations).
