Job description

Position

SLSCO Ltd. Federal Services Division is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for Design-Build infrastructure projects across the Southwestern United States. This position will be responsible for preparing and enforcing the SLS Safety Program as a Prime Contractor for federal-level clients such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and U.S. Department of State (DOS). The ideal candidate has a high level of attention to detail and a genuine care for the safety of personnel and the successful execution of the construction project.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the on-site SSHO ensuring proper implementation of the government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan (APP), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA's), and all other contractual safety requirements. On-site presence is required at all times when work is being performed.
  • Report to and work closely with the Project Manager and the government to ensure the accomplishment of all safety objectives with additional functional responsibilities to the Director of HSE.
  • Attend periodic project meetings including pre-work and preparatory meetings.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety procedures and plans.
  • Conduct documented safety orientation training and ongoing job and evolution-specific safety training for all required job site personnel.
  • Ensure the requirements of 29 CFR 1926.16 and EM 385-1-1 are met for federal jobs.
  • Conduct all safety & mishap investigations. Produce and maintain accident reports and all other required records for safety violations, near misses, and work-related injuries.
  • Establish a Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Deficiency Tracking System, listing & monitoring outstanding deficiencies until resolution.
  • Maintain and foster a proactive safety posture, conducting documented daily health & safety inspections, enforcement activities, and best practices evaluations.
  • Develop follow-on Accident Prevention Plans and Activity Hazard Analyses as required.
  • Acquire and maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site, including any required postings.
  • Establish, train, and direct efficient staffing of competent project safety representatives as required.
  • Perform additional assignments per the Project Manager's discretion.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience preparing & enforcing safety programs on large federal construction projects or four (4) years of equivalent experience if you are a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or have a degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Current OSHA-30 hr & EM 385-1-1 required.
  • Federal Construction project experience (USACE, NAVFAC, DOS) is strongly desired.
  • Strong verbal/written communication is required.
  • The position requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to speak, read, and write fluent English.
  • Ability to successfully pass background/security checks, valid State Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.

  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 40 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.

  • Ability to work outside in and around construction sites safely.
