Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a Project Manager and Corporate Health and Safety Manager, this position is responsible for enforcing the approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan (SSHP), USACE EM 385-1-1, and addressing hazards and safety issues on the project site. Familiarity with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations is required.

The following duties are a representative summary of major responsibilities and are not exhaustive. Incumbents may not perform all duties listed and may be assigned additional duties as needed.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Ensure construction and remediation operations, including subcontractors’ performance, comply with safety regulations, site safety and health specifications, and corporate policies.
  • Plan, conduct, and document daily Health and Safety meetings.
  • Implement and enforce safety policies, hazard identification, controls, and work rules per AGVIQ standards.
  • Supervise all work conducted at the site, always being present during work activities to ensure safety compliance.
  • Prepare safety reports, logs, and deficiency tracking systems timely, including safety inspections, hazard identification, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in planning construction methods, schedules, and resource requirements with Site Superintendents and Project Managers.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of subcontractors and vendors to ensure safety policies are followed.
  • Represent AGVIQ externally with partners, agencies, and legal entities as required.
  • Support leadership in setting and achieving safety goals, including training, coaching, and performance evaluations.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Familiarity with USACE EM-385-1-1 and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Experience in hazard identification and safety compliance.
  • OSHA 30-hour training certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years project experience as SSHO or relevant safety management experience.
  • Continuous safety education, including annual coursework.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with government projects preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 40-hour USACE EM385-1-1 Hazard Awareness Training.
  • 30-hour OSHA Construction Industry Training.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification as per 29 CFR 1910.120.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift approximately 40 pounds.
