- Exercise stop-work authority whenever conditions or practices are unsafe
Plan for Safety Before Work Begins
- Write, review, and manage project-specific JSPs and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for all scopes of work, including high-risk activities
- Work with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen so safety plans reflect real field conditions and sequencing
- Confirm every crew has reviewed and understood the applicable JSPs and JSAs before work starts
Oversee the Field
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and verify compliance
- Monitor high-risk operations, including heavy equipment, excavation, steel erection, welding, confined space entry, fall protection, and work at height
- Stay visible in the field, coaching safe behaviors and reinforcing expectations
Manage Incidents & Reporting
- Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, and hazards, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Maintain all required safety logs, reports, and documentation
- Track safety metrics, analyze trends, and report to project leadership and senior management
Train & Coordinate
- Develop and deliver toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety committee activities
- Support HR with new-hire safety onboarding, subcontractor safety requirements, and return-to-work processes
- Manage PPE and safety equipment distribution, inspection, and compliance
- Represent the company during OSHA inspections, client audits, and insurance reviews
Note: The Construction Quality Control Manager may fill the SSHO role if qualified.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of relevant construction safety experience, including service as SSHO on at least two federal design-build projects, each with a construction value of $5M or more

- Comfort working outdoors in active construction environments and traveling between job sites
- Ability to be on-site full-time during active construction operations
