Job summary

AstraZeneca in Cambridge (Kendall Square) seeks a SHE Associate Director – Site Operations Safety to lead facility safety, contractor governance, and project safety for a cutting-edge R&D campus. You will drive the implementation and continuous improvement of the SHE management system, ensuring alignment with Global SHE standards and U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience leading safety across building systems, utilities, laboratories, and projects.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. workplace safety requirements (OSHA) and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with SHE management systems, incident investigation, CAPA, and risk-based decision making.
• Ability to lead change projects, communicate with scientists and technical teams, and influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site facilities safety strategy aligned with Global SHE standards and R&D operations.
• Establish and chair facilities safety governance forums and drive risk-based decision making.
• Develop and maintain policies, standards, procedures, and operational controls for facilities, engineering, and laboratories.
• Oversee contractor governance, inspection programs, and performance monitoring for safety compliance.
• Support emergency planning, training, and readiness activities across the site.
