Position Description

Job Summary

This position works directly with technicians, installers, supervisors, project managers, branch leadership, customer representatives, and the Flatiron Safety team to identify hazards, improve job planning, reinforce safe work practices, and resolve safety concerns before they result in an incident. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently in an industrial environment, engaging directly with experienced tradespeople, communicating professionally with customers, and balancing coaching with accountability. When primary customer-site responsibilities permit, the Site Safety Coordinator may also provide safety support to other Flatiron branches and jobsites within the region.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible, engaged safety presence at assigned customer facilities and active jobsites.
  • Build productive working relationships with field employees, supervisors, project leadership, customer representatives, and site safety personnel.
  • Identify workplace hazards through field observations, inspections, and participation in pre-job planning, JHAs/JSAs, and hazard assessments.
  • Monitor work for compliance with company and customer safety requirements and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Provide safety oversight for higher-risk activities, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, electrical work, cranes and hoists, rigging, material handling, aerial lifts, forklifts, hot work, PPE, tools, and vehicles.
  • Coach employees on safe work practices, help develop practical solutions to hazards, and exercise Stop Work Authority when serious or imminent risks exist.
  • Conduct safety observations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and other field safety activities.
  • Support incident, injury, near-miss, property damage, and customer concern investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain required safety, inspection, and training documentation and promptly communicate significant concerns to Operations and Safety leadership.
  • Support company safety initiatives and provide safety assistance to other regional operations as needed.
Position Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in occupational safety, industrial construction, maintenance, field service, manufacturing, or a related environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA construction and/or general industry requirements, hazard recognition, and hazard-control practices.
  • Experience with jobsite inspections, safety observations, JHAs/JSAs, hazard assessments, and pre-job planning.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching, and documentation skills, with the ability to influence employees without direct supervisory authority.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, address safety concerns professionally, and follow issues through resolution.
  • Comfortable working in active industrial environments and around construction, maintenance, and material‑handling equipment.
  • Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs and ladders, and access active work areas as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer and regional jobsites as needed.
  • Preferred: OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR/AED, experience with cranes/rigging, LOTO, fall protection, aerial lifts, forklifts, hot work, or electrical safety.
  • Preferred: Previous embedded/customer-site safety experience and/or safety-related certification or degree (CHST, STS, OHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent).

This is primarily an on-site field position, not an office-based safety role. The Site Safety Coordinator is expected to align their work schedule with Flatiron operations at the assigned customer facility. Depending on customer and project requirements, this may periodically include early starts, extended shifts, nights, or weekends. Regional travel may occasionally be required to support other Flatiron locations when the primary customer-site assignment permits.
