Job summary

Renewyx is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee a roof repair project in Washington, DC. You will implement and enforce the APP and AHAs, and be the competent safety person on site with full authority to stop work for unsafe conditions.

Qualifications

• Requires OSHA 30-hour and competent person training.

Responsibilities

• Implement and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
• Develop and maintain AHAs for all work phases.
• Conduct daily safety inspections of areas, equipment and routes.
• Lead daily pre-task safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks.
• Monitor fall protection and PPE use on roofing operations.
• Maintain safety docs, training records, and inspection logs.
• Coordinate with Contracting Officer and Government Safety Representatives.
• Investigate incidents and prepare written reports.
• Have authority to suspend work for unsafe conditions.

We are representing a well-established general contractor with a strong track record on federal construction projects, in their search for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join a roof repair project in Washington, DC. This firm is known for holding safety to the highest standard on occupied federal facilities while genuinely valuing the people who make that possible.

This is a full-time position with the authority and autonomy to run project safety from the ground up, on a high-visibility federal jobsite.

The Role:

As SSHO, you will implement, administer, and enforce the project-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), serving as the contractor's competent person for safety. You'll be present on-site whenever construction activities are underway, holding full authority to stop work when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.

Responsibilities include:

• Implement and enforce the approved Accident Prevention Plan
• Develop, review, and maintain Activity Hazard Analyses for all phases of work
• Conduct daily safety inspections of work areas, equipment, tools, and access routes
• Lead daily pre-task safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks
• Monitor roofing operations for fall protection compliance and verify proper PPE use
• Maintain site safety documentation, training records, and inspection logs
• Coordinate with the Contracting Officer, Government Safety Representative, and Building Manager on all project safety matters
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and property damage events, and prepare written reports
• Maintain full authority to suspend or stop work involving unsafe acts or conditions

What We're Looking For:

• Minimum 5 years of progressive construction safety experience
• Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification and OSHA Competent Person Training
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards
• EM 385-1-1 Construction Safety Hazard Awareness Course for Constructors
• USACE CQM for Contractors Certification
• Experience preparing and implementing Accident Prevention Plans and AHAs
• CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification
• Experience on federal construction projects
• Experience working on occupied facilities
