Position Overview and Primary Responsibilities

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) reports to an ALMS Senior Corporate Manager and is part of a team providing Base Operations Support. The SSHO oversees and manages the safety program at Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Responsibilities include developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risks, and ensuring legal compliance to control safety risks in operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain an effective safety program in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
2. Prepare and maintain the government-accepted Accident Prevention Plan, ensuring its implementation across all project phases.
3. Conduct training and presentations on health and safety matters and accident prevention.
4. Monitor compliance through regular inspections of employees and operations.
5. Identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
6. Maintain records of inspections, incidents, and corrective actions; prepare safety reports and presentations for stakeholders.
7. Provide training and support to staff to ensure understanding and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on Base Operations Support Contracts or 3 years with a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree.
• OSHA 30-hour construction safety class completion required.
• Strong understanding of quality control principles, EM 385-1-1, and 29 CFR 1926 regulations.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid driver's license. TS/SCI clearance is desired.
• Ability to be on-site during regular working hours.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and federal energy laws is a plus.
