Job description

Summary

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for ensuring that all Task Order (TO) activities at the Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, are conducted safely and in compliance with applicable safety regulations and contract requirements. The SSHO develops, implements, and monitors safety protocols and ensures that all personnel, including subcontractors, are trained and adhere to established safety standards. The SSHO conducts regular safety inspections, maintains safety documentation, and collaborates with project leadership to address and mitigate potential hazards. The SSHO must be on-site whenever Preventive Maintenance (PM) or Remedial Maintenance (RM) work is being performed.

This position is contingent upon contract award

Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and oversee the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) for the Task Order, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including USACE EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards.
  2. Conduct daily safety inspections of the worksite to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  3. Ensure all personnel, including subcontractors, are trained in applicable safety standards and procedures.
  4. Document and investigate all accidents, near-misses, and safety violations; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  5. Collaborate with the Project Manager and QC Manager to ensure safety is integrated into all project phases.
  6. Maintain all safety documentation, including training records, inspection reports, and incident logs.
  7. Provide regular safety briefings and training sessions to personnel to reinforce safety protocols.
  8. Address safety concerns raised by the Government or other stakeholders and attend on-site meetings as required.
  9. Ensure compliance with contract-specific safety requirements and maintain a low rate of lost-time accidents.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Three (3) years of experience as an SSHO on projects of similar size, scope, and complexity, including Federal Government project experience.
  2. Completion of the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety Class.
  3. Completion of “Construction Quality Management for Contractors” training.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of safety requirements outlined in USACE EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards.

  2. Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain meticulous safety records.
