Job summary

A leading technology company is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to design and optimize its network infrastructure in Seattle. Site Reliability Engineer, Network and Traffic - USDS

Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate and optimize TikTok network, not limited to backbone, public cloud, and Edge/CDN.
• Design, manage, operate and contribute to the development of our Layer7 Load Balancer, CDN origin and DNS.
• Troubleshoot network and / or traffic issues in partnership with our Data Center Partners.
• Work with cross-functional teams including but not limited to compute, storage, database, application teams to drive the innovation and evolution of ByteDance network.
• Work with external vendors and ISPs for device and carrier selection, perform testing and verification.
• Participate in the global on‑call rotation to support production traffic and networking issues.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, RSVP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF/IS‑IS and MPLS related technologies.
• Good understanding of network monitoring protocols and tools, such as SNMP, sFlow/netflow, Telemetry.
• Hands on experience with one or more of the following: Load Balancers, DNS, CDN origin, Datacenter networking.
• Familiar with data center network architecture, such as CLOS.
• Self‑motivated, good communication, written skills and team player.
• Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field, or experience of three or more years in a related field.
• Preferred: Significant experience configuring and optimizing Nginx; in‑depth knowledge of network protocols and implementation in hyper‑scale data center networks; in‑depth knowledge of public cloud architecture, such as AWS, GCP, Azure, Ali Cloud, OCI, etc.; good understanding of IPv6 and IPv4‑IPv6 co‑existence technologies; programming/scripting in Python, Go or other languages.

Job Information

Compensation Description (Annually): Base salary range for this position in the selected city is $129,960 - $246,240 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day‑one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short‑term and long‑term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
