Job summary

White Hat Gaming is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to strengthen our Linux-based infrastructure, automate deployment, testing, and monitoring, and scale our distributed systems on AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

You will collaborate with developers, write scripts (PHP in places), provide 3rd line support, and help improve processes in a fast-paced, remote environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• Background in Linux administration.
• Scripting/programming knowledge of Unix shell scripting.
• Good understanding of technologies such as Apache, Nginx, Databases, DNS servers, etc.
• Understanding of cloud-based infrastructures, such as AWS.
• Experience with systems for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications, such as Kubernetes.
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Help administer our existing Linux servers with scale to larger EC2 fleets.
• Collaborate with developers to automate testing, deployment and monitoring processes.
• Write and maintain scripts (PHP where relevant).
• Diagnose and help fix production issues.
• Provide 3rd line technical support for customer tickets.

Summary

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will support our team and augment our existing development infrastructure by implementing the automation needed to streamline our pipeline.

Tooling includes Terraform, Kubernetes, and AWS services.

This role is fully remote and reports to Ops Engineering Management.

Your day to day

• Helping administer our existing small collection of Linux servers. Over time that will become a larger collection of EC2 instances
• Working with our developers to improve and automate all our testing, deployment and monitoring processes
• Writing and maintaining a variety of scripts as required. Most existing ones are in PHP
• Diagnosing and helping fix production issues
• Providing 3rd line technical support for tickets raised by customers and clients
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing company where priorities can vary and evolve
• Proactive mindset, taking initiative rather than waiting for direction
• Continuously seeking ways to improve processes and drive efficiency

What we are looking for

• A minimum of 5 years of experience deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
• Background in Linux administration
• Scripting/programming knowledge of at least Unix shell scripting
• Good understanding of technologies such as Apache, Nginx, Databases (relational and keyvalue), DNS servers, etc
• Understanding of cloud-based infrastructures, such as AWS
• Experience with systems for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications, such as Kubernetes
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure
• Quick to learn and fast to adapt to changing environments
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and organizational skills in English

Nice to have

• Experience deploying and supporting multiple staging/dev environments
• Experience in maintaining continuous integration and delivery pipelines with tools such as Argocd / CircleCI
• Experience implementing, operating, and supporting open-source tools for network and security monitoring and management on Linux/Unix platforms
• Experience with Postgres
• Experience with security in AWS
