Job summary

Town of Blacksburg, VA is seeking a Site, Field, and Court Supervisor to oversee participants, parents, and coaches at an assigned location. You will prepare incident reports, substitute for officials when needed, and manage equipment and information distribution.

Shifts include evenings and weekends. Requires a high school diploma or GED and 3–5 years in supervision or recreation. Valid driver's license required. Strong communication and record-keeping skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in supervision and sports and/or recreation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Check assigned field and/or court for safety hazards and maintenance needs to ensure equipment and fields are ready for use.
• Exhibit upstanding leadership behaviors.
• Verbally communicate effectively with parents, coaches, and participants.
• Prepare written accident and/or incident reports.
• Help maintain cleanliness and safety of the location.
• Monitor and communicate effectively with participants and attendees.
• De-escalate potential incidents with coaches, parents, and players.
• Substitute for Sports Officials, Scorekeepers, and/or Clock-keepers when necessary.
• Distribute and collect Parks and Recreation equipment and information as needed.
• Location opening and closing duties.
• Continually send reports to Parks and Recreation as needed.

The Site, Field, and Court Supervisor performs intermediate work supervising and monitoring participants, parents, and coaches at an assigned location of sports and recreation activities. Additionally, they will be responsible for preparing written accident and/or incident reports, substituting for Sports Officials and Scorekeepers when necessary, and distributing and collecting Parks and Recreation equipment and information as needed.

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or GED required
• 3 to 5 years of experience in supervision and sports and/or recreation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

• This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and repetitive motions; frequently requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting
• Work has standard vision requirements
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; observing general surroundings and activities
• Work regularly occasionally requires exposure to rain, wind, and high-temperature conditions
