Job summary

The Town of Blacksburg is seeking a Site, Field, and Court Supervisor to oversee youth sports and recreation activities at an assigned location. The role involves supervising participants, parents, and coaches, ensuring safety, and coordinating equipment distribution and information.

Evenings and weekends shifts are common, and the position requires strong communication, leadership, and the ability to prepare accurate written reports. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 3–5 years in supervision and sports/recreation experience or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Check assigned field and/or court for safety hazards or maintenance needs to ensure equipment and facilities are safe for use.
• Exhibits leadership behaviors.
• Verbally communicates effectively with parents, coaches, and participants.
• Prepares written accident and/or incident reports.
• Help maintain cleanliness and safety of the location.
• Monitors and communicates with participants and attendees.
• De-escalates potential incidents with coaches, parents, and players.
• Substituting for Sports Officials, Scorekeepers, and/or Clock-keepers when necessary.
• Distributing and collecting Parks and Recreation equipment and information as needed.
• Location opening and closing duties.
• Send reports to Parks and Recreation as needed.

The Site, Field, and Court Supervisor performs intermediate work supervising and monitoring participants, parents, and coaches at an assigned location of sports and recreation activities. Additionally, they will be responsible for preparing written accident and/or incident reports, substituting for Sports Officials and Scorekeepers when necessary, and distributing and collecting Parks and Recreation equipment and information as needed.

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or GED required
• 3 to 5 years of experience in supervision and sports and/or recreation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record

• This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, and repetitive motions; frequently requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting
• Work has standard vision requirements
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; observing general surroundings and activities
• Work regularly occasionally requires exposure to rain, wind, and high-temperature conditions
