Job summary

Bj’s Wholesale Club in Hawaii is seeking a Civil Engineer/Project Manager to oversee club development, remodels and gas facilities across our real estate portfolio. You will lead cross‑functional teams, coordinate consultants, and ensure approvals from state and local agencies, while managing budgets and schedules.

The role demands a Bachelor’s in civil engineering and 5–7 years in retail corporate or civil engineering design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering required.
• 5‑7 years of Retail Corporate or Civil Engineering Design firm experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned projects to an on-time and on-budget completion to include new and takeover club locations; remodels and expansions; and new club gas facilities.
• Strategize, hire consultant teams; represent the company’s interests in public meetings and hearings; facilitate complete project approvals from State, Federal and local municipalities; develop construction documentation in accordance with company prototype, budget and schedule.
• Maintain a current schedule and budget update on all assigned projects and report same to management on an as needed basis.
• Establish criteria for RFPs and solicit quotes for consultant scope of work; identify and contract consultants for the project.
• Support Real Estate Managers in developing conceptual site plans and establishing project scope.
• Lead project team through conceptual design and due diligence phase to establish development feasibility, preliminary construction budgets and schedules.
• Assist Real Estate Managers in negotiations by providing necessary information/documentation.
• Manage development and coordination of approval and construction documents; work with CPMs and RE PMs to ensure compliance with project parameters, budget and schedule.
• Attend working sessions and public hearings with state and local municipality staff; review projects and prepare for public hearings.
• Represent the company’s interest in securing approvals to construct site, building, gas station and off‑site.
• Coordinate that all permits are issued; fees are filed; bonds are procured; agencies notified in advance of construction.

• Administer contract invoicing, amendments, change orders and close‑out documentation for all.
• Assemble a project team consisting of attorneys, professional design and engineering consultants, strategists and an expeditor to secure approvals for construction of new Club and Gas facility.
• Strategize and develop an approvals timeline to be incorporated into overall project schedule.
• Coordinate development of construction documents for building, civil, off‑site and gas to maintain approved schedule for permitting and construction.
• Report progress of project approvals to maintain updated schedule for management.
• Possess general knowledge of land use planning/civil engineering principles.
• Experience with regulatory agency/municipal approval process.
• Proficient in retail site design with understanding of soils, drainage, environmental and other related activities.
• Awareness of legal and environmental issues related to land.

Compensation

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including location, education, experience and qualifications. The pay range for this position starts from $109,000.00.
