SUMMARY // The Site Carpenter is responsible for carrying out climbing wall construction and installation tasks on gym projects. This role involves steel fabrication, erection, basic carpentry, equipment operation, and site preparation. Duties include installing panels and steel, operating tools and machinery, and maintaining site cleanliness. The role also requires consistent adherence to safety protocols, effective teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Candidates must demonstrate time management, data integrity, and a commitment to Vertical Solutions' standards of craftsmanship. Work involves heights, varying temperatures, and physical labor in a dynamic and collaborative field environment.
Estimated duration of project is Austin, TX based, 2-3 months starting at beginning of July 2025.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow all OSHA safety expectations and wear required PPE (e.g., hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses).
- Maintain a clean, organized jobsite and adhere to 5S methodology; demonstrate urgency and a culture of craftsmanship.
- Execute installation tasks including building wood and steel structures, concrete work, demolition, and scaffolding setup.
- Operate hand, power, pneumatic tools, and heavy machinery while following safety procedures.
- Interpret printed and digital plans; provide estimates for materials/equipment; follow SOPs and execute QC procedures.
- Utilize electronic time clock and materials log; ensure daily accuracy and integrity of data logged.
- Support field team, demonstrate professionalism, be adaptable, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Work at heights using lifts and harnesses, always maintaining two safety points; follow rope access safety standards.
- Assist trade workers (e.g., electricians, HVAC) and perform general labor including sweeping, inventory, and errands.
Requirements
- A minimum of five years of professional experience, which may include a combination of workforce experience, higher education (college/university), or trade school training with at least 1-2 years in construction or carpentry.
- At least one year of commercial stick welding experience; stick welding certification preferred.
- At least three years of on-the-job construction training, apprenticeship, or an associate degree in construction.
- OSHA 30 certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and work on feet all day; work at heights and in variable weather conditions.
- Skilled in interpreting plans, using measuring tools, and handling construction materials and equipment.
- Effective communication and collaboration with superiors, peers, vendors, and clients.
- Experience with climbing gyms preferred.
- Excellent time management; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Passion for developing and implementing operational checklists to ensure consistency, efficiency, and organization.
WORK ENVIRONMENT // Work is performed at active construction sites and involves physical exertion including lifting, climbing, crouching, and use of tools. Employees work at heights, in confined spaces, and under various temperature/weather conditions. Exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous materials is expected.
Salary: $22 - $25 per hour
