Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of the specific sport coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Establish a program that ensures a cooperative, supportive, and participative environment for all students, coaches, faculty, and the community based on KCMSD Athletic Department guidelines;
2. Provide proactive and positive leadership that emphasizes the physical, psychological, and social benefits of interscholastic athletics;
3. Create short- and long-term goals for the school’s athletic program that align with the school’s academic program, culture, and KCMSD goals;
4. Ensure program compliance with MSHSAA standards;
5. Check and ensure student-athletes meet MSHSAA eligibility standards weekly;
6. Update the MSHSAA website regarding student-athlete eligibility;
7. Respond to “Transfer Requests” from MSHSAA for student-athletes transferring to/from other institutions;
8. Supervise and evaluate all athletic coaches in the building;
9. Participate in the interview process for coaching positions;
10. Communicate with the District Athletic Department regarding on-site issues and successes;
11. Attend monthly District Athletic Department meetings concerning league business and scheduling;
12. Attend all home athletic contests or assign personnel to supervise them;
13. Handle advertising, information dissemination, printing, and selling of programs or varsity contest materials (may delegate this responsibility);
14. Ensure facilities are prepared for game day.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Head Coaches and Student-Athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Employment as a teacher or administrator at the applying school;
2. Valid teacher’s certificate and full or part-time contract with KCMSD BOE for the school year;
3. At least 3 years of athletic administrative experience;
4. Completion of 8 contact hours of professional development, including:

• 4 hours at district level meetings,
• 3 hours at school level meetings,
• 1 hour at outside meetings.

Knowledge of athletic program operations;

First Aid/CPR certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: In progress or possession of a graduate degree in Sports Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting objects of at least 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
