Job summary

May Mobility in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a Site Autonomy Engineer to directly support live autonomous fleets. You will work closely with electromechanical and software elements to ensure successful launches and safe operation in designated sites.

Responsibilities include vehicle upfits, on-site debugging, sensor calibrations, data acquisition, and collaboration with the engineering team to drive continuous safety improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Mechanical/Electrical Eng or equiv.
  • Experience with Linux environments.
  • Ability to read mechanical/electrical schematics.
  • Safety-first approach to work.
  • Knowledge of wire harnesses and subsystems.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot systems.
  • License valid in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement vehicle upfits for fleet upgrades.
  • Debug electrical and mechanical issues on vehicles.
  • Conduct on‑site sensor calibrations.
  • Test feature improvements on-site.
  • Build and maintain local mapping assets.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on May vehicles.
  • Record issues and resolutions; escalate as needed.
  • Assist in testing autonomous operation for safety and rider comfort.
  • Implement hardware changes in the field for return to service.
  • Communicate issues and successes to engineering; drive resolution.
  • Perform data acquisition using vehicle sensors.
  • Coordinate on‑site configuration and deployment of autonomous tech.
  • Assist with fleet cleanliness and demo readiness.

Job Summary

May Mobility is entering an exciting phase of growth and our team is expanding quickly. You will have an opportunity to independently impact our approach to solving the most interesting problems facing AV’s today, while operating live in the wild. The Site Autonomy Engineer’s primary role will be hands‑on support of the operational fleet in respective site location. The engineer will work intimately with the electromechanical and software elements of the system to ensure the success of the launch and safety of the autonomous operation.

  • Coordinates and implements vehicle upfits to support fleet upgrades and initiatives
  • Debugs electrical and mechanical issues on the vehicles
  • Executes on‑site sensor calibrations
  • Executes on‑site testing of feature improvements
  • Build and maintain local May Mobility mapping assets
  • Performs preventative maintenance on May vehicles
  • Records issues found and resolutions, escalating in proper channels as necessary
  • Assists in testing the autonomous operation of the vehicle to ensure it follows May’s standards for safety and rider comfort
  • Implements hardware changes in the field, ensuring safe operation for return to service
  • Communicates issues and successes to the engineering team, and drives resolution
  • Perform data acquisition by utilizing vehicle sensor suite
  • Coordinates and develops the on‑site configuration and deployment of autonomous technology in designated locations
  • Assist in fleet cleanliness and demo readiness
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or relevant experience
  • Experience and comfort in computing environments, especially Linux
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and/or electrical schematics
  • Safety-first approach to all work
  • Knowledge of wire harnesses and basic mechanical subsystems
  • Ability to debug and modify mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
  • Systems‑level thinking
  • Experience using Git and GitHub or Gitlab, or ability to learn
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
Physical Requirements
  • Standard site working conditions which includes but is not limited to:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% or more of the time
  • Must be able to move and / or change positions often when needed
  • Prolonged computer use
  • Flexibility to work weekends and adjust schedule to align with site operating hours and project needs, including early mornings, evenings, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and climb ladders (infrequent)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
