Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a substitute teacher to support daily instructional needs. Under the principal’s direction, you will plan learning experiences, supervise students, monitor outcomes, and maintain records.
Must hold active Virginia teaching license for certified rate or qualify as non-certified substitute. Positions start August 2026 with an end date in June 2027, potentially full- or part-time depending on district needs.
Under direction of the school principal, plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, VBCPS policies and effective instructional practices; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process; ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents and community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
A minimum of 30 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university.

Substitute to be paid for each instructional day that he/she works, not to exceed the number of instructional days on the school calendar from the stated beginning date of temporary employment. Substitutes must report each instructional day to their assigned school at the time specified by their principal and shall fulfill a teacher?s workday. In the event that the school has 100% teacher attendance on a given day, the substitute may be assigned as a substitute for a teacher assistant, security assistant, or cafeteria monitor. In the event of 100% attendance of all staff members, the substitute may be assigned as a resource where needed within the school. Substitutes must be willing to teach all subjects within the school. No guarantee for a position for the 2025-2026 school year.
