Job summary

VIE Technologies is seeking a junior System Integration & Test Engineer to validate embedded hardware and firmware. You will work with the Lead SIT Engineer on test execution, automation development, and requirements traceability in a hybrid role in San Diego.

You’ll design test procedures, build Python scripts for HIL testing, and use oscilloscopes and analyzers to debug issues across hardware and software boundaries. 2-3 days in office are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of hardware/embedded test, validation, or related experience.
• Reading schematics and understanding analog/digital circuits.
• Proficiency in Python for test scripting and automation.
• Experience testing embedded systems/hardware-level validation.
• Hands-on with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM, power supply).
• Familiarity with UART, SPI, I2C protocols and test requirements traceability.

Responsibilities

Role Description

We're looking for a junior System Integration & Test (SIT) Engineer with a strong hardware/electrical engineering foundation to support test automation and validation of embedded hardware and firmware. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, firmware, and software test: you'll be validating physical devices and their embedded code, not just black-box software. You'll work closely with the Lead SIT Engineer on day-to-day test execution, automation development, and requirements/traceability work. Role is hybrid and requires you to be in San Diego and physically be in office 2-3 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, execute, and maintain test procedures for embedded hardware and firmware, including bring-up, functional, and regression testing
• Develop and maintain Python-based test automation scripts and frameworks for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
• Debug hardware/firmware issues using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies)
• Interface with embedded communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C) for test and diagnostic purposes
• Write and maintain test requirements, test cases, and test plans, with clear traceability back to system requirements
• Collaborate with firmware/hardware engineering teams to reproduce, isolate, and document defects
• Support integration testing across hardware revisions, firmware builds, and system configurations
• Maintain test equipment, fixtures, and lab environments

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
• 2+ years of relevant experience in hardware/embedded test, validation, or a closely related role.
• Working knowledge of digital and analog circuits, and comfort reading schematics
• Proficiency in Python for test scripting and automation
• Experience testing embedded systems or firmware at the hardware level
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM, power supply)
• Working knowledge of UART, SPI, and I2C protocols
• Experience developing and managing test requirements, test cases, and test plans with traceability to system requirements
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across hardware/firmware/software boundaries

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with test management tools (e.g., TestLink, Trac)
• Familiarity with SVN for version control
• Experience testing or integrating devices with BLE and/or LTE connectivity
• Experience with Raspberry Pi / Arduino platform and your ability to be hands on building circuits and systems and debugging them.
