Work at Home Bilingual Sinhala-English Phone Interpreter

Job Title: Sinhala Interpreter

Location: Work at Home position in United States

Position: Phone Interpreter

Pay: $0.75 - $0.90 per minute. Actual rates depend on time of day/night and interpretation level.

Position Overview

The Sinhala Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, rendering meaning between Sinhala and English. The role involves breaking communication barriers across industries such as healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911.

The interpreter processes information quickly and accurately, recognizing cultural differences. The role involves verbal interpretation only, not written translation. It is a remote position requiring a quiet, secure environment.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond promptly and professionally during interpreting sessions.
• Render accurate concepts, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly, with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in stressful or emotional calls.
• Be punctual and available during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding unsanctioned interaction with LEP.
• Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Sinhala and English, with cultural competency.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to remain neutral and objective, especially on sensitive topics.
• Preferred: education or experience in language fields.
• Must be adaptable to technological enhancements.
• At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read/write in requested languages (highly preferred).

Technical Requirements

• Personal device dedicated for work (computer, tablet, or smartphone).
• High-speed internet (min 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload).
• Quiet workspace free from background noise.

Physical Requirements

• Operate keyboard/mouse, remain stationary in front of a computer.
• Manual dexterity for typing/writing.
• Able to lift up to 26 lbs.
