Job summary

General Position Summary: The Singles Machine Operator is responsible for the setting up and running the extruder to produce correct type of product maintaining all Marmon IEI standards and requirements. The Singles Machine Operator is also responsible for producing a quality product in a safe and efficient manner while promoting a team atmosphere. Help problem solve and proactively seek ways to improve the singles process and maintain all equipment in the Singles Work Center.

Essential Duties:

  • Strive to achieve continuous improvement in all activities, processes, and with all projects at Dekoron.
  • Use work order packets to determine what product to run
  • Pull correct materials to the line as needed
  • Set up singles extruder properly which includes the following: determine to use the flyer or single reel payoff setting one of them up according to needs, select proper screw for extruder, select proper tooling for wire size and wall thickness to be produced, determine and enter correct heat profile for extruder, set up proper size reel for take up coiler, enter correct footage information in counter on take up coiler, determine correct water temperature setting for water bath/capstan, determine proper spark tester voltage setting and enter correct values in m-trims for initial start up of product.
  • Run extruder to produce correct type of product maintaining all Dekoron standards and requirements
  • Correctly maintain all paperwork neatly and accurately
  • Ensure the machine is set up for the operator on the next scheduled shift so that a minimum of two hours of work can be done
  • Report product or machine issues/problems to supervisor on duty including PIT when needed
  • Place finished product from singles work center to proper location when required
  • Help maintain inventory of tooling and report needs or issues to supervisor on duty
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance department to ensure that product meets the required specifications
  • Keep work area clean and organized
  • Clean and maintain all tooling associated with singles extrusion equipment
  • Recommend process improvements
  • Work as a team with other Singles Operators and other Dekoron employees
  • Ability to distinguish between different colors of product
  • Promote safety in all processes and activities
  • Assists with training of new employees; assists with cross-training of current employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • High School diploma or education or GED, required
  • Technical training, preferred
  • Licenses or certifications are not required for this position
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting with responsibilities in the area of extrusion is preferred, but not required.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
  • Equipment selection – determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Control Precision – adjust controls of the machine to exact positions
  • Communication – understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Getting information – observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Cognitive thinking – problem solving, prioritizing activities, allocate resources, maintain an adequate supply of materials, make sound decisions, and recommend solutions in troubleshooting and repairing in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to make quick decisive decisions concerning product and machine adjustments needed to ensure product quality

  • Evaluating Information to determine compliance with standards - using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
