Supports learners (including but not limited to faculty, residents, clinical fellows, graduate or undergraduate learners, practicing or licensed professionals) in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of health professions education programs.


Job Description

Simulation Supervisor involves designing, conducting, promoting, evaluating and supporting health professions education programs in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. Supports learners (including but not limited to faculty, residents, clinical fellows, graduate or undergraduate learners, practicing or licensed professionals) in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of health professions education programs.


They also provide direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Applies extensive knowledge of professional health education programs and policies to manage program administration and operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, and maintaining databases. Participates in strategizing, planning, and implementation of substantial program improvements of large scope and high degrees of complexity. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.


This position is responsible for technical operations and teaching support and will be required to apply many unique skills and knowledge including; clinical, computer and simulation technology for multiple disciplines. Responsibilities will also include the planning and delivery of clinical training scenarios and program development, and community liaison, and compliance with standards and regulations, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware) repair and maintenance of partial task trainers and multimedia peripherals. This position will include being a technical instructor for use of simulation equipment and workshop presentations.


Department Summary

The UCSF Kanbar Center for Simulation provides simulation-based training for all health professions education programs for the University which includes 3,500 faculty, 2,100 health professions students, and 1,500 residents and fellows. Simulation is defined as an educational modality with which the learner physically interacts to mimic an aspect of clinical care for the purpose of teaching or assessment. Activities at the center range from those that use actors (standardized patients), to activities with partial task trainers and/or mannequins. UCSF health professions schools continuously rank in the top five for research and for primary care training. The Center is a part of the Office of Medical Education which is responsible for ensuring the highest quality learning and teaching environment for our programs and the support and development of over 110 staff.


The Center supports UCSF's educational mission by creating opportunities for teaching, learning, and assessment using simulation as an educational strategy. The center serves all five health professional schools at UCSF and provides learning opportunities across the continuum of health professions education. In addition to activities at the main facility on the Parnassus campus, the Center supports simulation across satellite facilities and in-situ at affiliated hospitals.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement complex processes and systems improving program quality and efficiency and reducing cost.

  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues. Excellent communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.

  • Master's degree in related area preferred

  • Advanced interpersonal skills. Skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Successful experience working with people with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.

  • Advanced organizational and project management skills. Ability to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply to administration of the entire program including organizing critical files for compliance.

  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals, like SimCapture. .

  • Knowledge of department, organization, HR and university policies and processes. Current knowledge of relevant industry federal, state and local laws and regulations including national accrediting organizations and state and federal licensing and regulatory offices.In-depth knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and
