Job description

The Simulation Curriculum Director is responsible for developing, integrating, and overseeing the delivery of the simulation curriculum throughout all phases of the medical education program at FCoM. The role ensures that all simulation experiences are aligned with course and program learning objectives, offering essential formative and summative assessments to foster student competency in clinical medicine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee the development and implementation of simulation curriculum for all phases of the medical education program.

Ensure simulation experiences are congruent with and horizontally integrated into concurrent calendared courses and their respective learning objectives.

Work closely with course director and curriculum manager to align simulation learning objectives with program learning objectives, completing session mapping and sharing revisions with the Office of Medical Education.

Collaborate with course and clerkship directors to develop and implement simulation experiences that meet their curricular goals, including patient type requirements and involvement in patient management necessary to meet course and clerkship goals.

Collaborate with course and clerkship directors to develop standardized formative and summative assessment tools for all simulation sessions and ensure assessments are delivered to course directors within one week of completion.

Participate in quality assurance and improvement for every simulation session, formative assessments, and objective simulated clinical cases and assessments.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty to create integrated simulated clinical cases combining biomedical, social, and health systems sciences.

Track longitudinal clinical skills progression through OSCE performance and develop remediation programs for students not meeting competency standards.

Maintain records of student simulation performance and share outcomes with course directors and the Office of Medical Education.

Communicate performance concerns to student learning specialists and collaborate with course directors to develop individualized remediation plans for students requiring additional support.

Ensure consistency in content delivery between faculty involved in clinical simulation teaching and provide formal feedback on faculty performance. Work collaboratively with Office of Faculty Success and Simulation team on developing and sustaining faculty simulation competencies.

Collaborate with the Belmont Simulation Center’s director of operations to ensure there are necessary resources for FCoM simulation experiences.

Meet regularly with simulation staff, leadership, and the Associate Dean of Medical Education to align simulation experiences with curricular needs.

Serve as the liaison for FCoM to the Belmont Simulation Center.

Assist in planning faculty development related to clinical skills instruction and maintain a positive learning environment that promotes professionalism and life-long learning.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

M.D. or D.O. from an accredited university, with prior experience and training in medical education simulation and a minimum of three years of recent clinical practice and current maintenance of board certification

Demonstrated ability to design and implement simulation-based curricula and assessments.

Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Experience working in interdisciplinary teams with excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
