Job summary

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Simulation & Analysis Engineer II – Structural Analysis to perform advanced finite element analyses, including linear/nonlinear, dynamic, and fatigue studies. You will correlate simulations with physical tests and mentor junior engineers while supporting New Product Development.

Ideal candidates hold a BS in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of FEA experience and master’s preferred, proficient in ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and CAD tools such as NX/SolidWorks.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent; MS preferred.
  • 5+ years of design and FEA experience.
  • Proficient in linear/nonlinear FEA, dynamics, fatigue.

Responsibilities

  • Perform FEA on components and assemblies with focus on stress/strain.
  • Conduct linear, nonlinear, dynamic, modal, and fatigue analyses.
  • Correlate FEA with physical testing and failures.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in FEA techniques.
  • Prioritize and document findings and recommendations.

Simulation & Analysis Engineer II – Structural Analysis

You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Directly support New Product Development and Advanced Engineering projects with Finite Element Analysis of components and assemblies, with a focus on stress/strain evaluations
  • Conduct linear and non-linear finite element analyses
  • Conduct dynamic, modal, drop and deflection analyses
  • Conduct fatigue analysis and durability calculations
  • Correlate FEA models to physical durability testing, including drop tests, vibration tests, and strain gauge measurements.
  • Consult with teams on loading and boundary conditions
  • Consult with teams and technicians on strain gauge placement
  • Estimate or verify loading conditions based on failure analysis
  • Recommend geometry or material changes for design robustness as well as weight, size, and cost optimizations
  • Execute analysis on competitive parts and products
  • Be highly agile – use highly effective communication skills to quickly understand the depth of work required and provide trade-offs of accuracy versus time to complete analysis.
  • Articulate and prioritize time constraints where needed
  • Will receive analysis requests from a variety of team members – must be strong in prioritization, timing, and scope discussions at kickoff and efficiently document findings and recommendations at closure
  • Mentor, train, and share knowledge to increase overall FEA capabilities of the department
What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • 5+ years of mechanical design & Finite Element Analysis experience
  • Proficient with linear & nonlinear FEA, dynamic analysis, and fatigue analysis
  • Extensive experience with Ansys & LS-Dyna
  • Working knowledge of other analysis types such as CFD, NVH, gear and transmission analysis, and analysis of rotational components
  • Proficient in CAD – NX, Solidworks, or similar
  • Proficient in quantifying loading and correlating failures modes to FEA simulation
  • Strong root cause and failure analysis aptitude
  • Ability to quickly grasp component and assembly functionality, determine load cases and constraints, and execute varied complexity levels of analysis depending on criticality and timing to New Product Development team members
  • Highly motivated self-driver with never satisfied, always improving attitude
