Job summary

Simon is seeking a seasoned field-based Quality Control supervisor for asphalt paving oversight across Colorado and neighboring states. You will observe paving operations, coach crews, and perform daily quality audits to drive continuous improvement.

The role requires 10+ years in asphalt paving and 5+ years in QC, deep hands-on knowledge of plant operations and equipment, and travel within the region.

Qualifications

  • Construction Management degree preferred.
  • State quality control certifications (NE, WY, CO, SD) and DOT-related certifications are beneficial but not required.
  • Valid driver's license required due to extensive jobsite travel.

Responsibilities

  • Observe paving operations to evaluate quality, crew performance, process consistency, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Identify issues or deviations promptly and guide crews through corrective actions.
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching to paving crews, reinforcing best practices in paving, compaction, equipment use, and workflow coordination.
  • Complete daily quality audits, record observations, and communicate key findings to supervisors and QC leadership to support ongoing improvement.
  • Serve as a resource for QC-related questions, offering guidance on specifications, quality expectations, and effective field practices.
  • Maintain regular communication with operations teams, plant personnel, and supervisors to support alignment on quality requirements and project goals.
  • Recommend and help implement improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, and overall paving quality based on field observations.
  • Ensure field activities align with company policy, safety procedures, and relevant regulatory or specification requirements.
  • Offer QC insights during bid/estimate discussions when project conditions may affect quality planning or execution.
  • Support development and delivery of offseason classroom training, contributing field-based knowledge and examples as programs expand.
  • Participate in company quality audit initiatives, contributing field data and feedback to support broader quality objectives.
  • Travel within company operations to respond to quality needs and support crews wherever issues arise.

Job Summary:

This position oversees daily testing and inspection activities for construction and manufacturing operations, with a primary focus on asphalt paving. The role observes paving operations, identifies and corrects issues in real time, and provides handson coaching to crews. It emphasizes frontline training, daily quality audits, and continuous improvement. This is a fieldbased role requiring regular travel, suited for a highly experienced asphalt paving professional with strong knowledge of paving processes, plant operations, mix design fundamentals, and equipment.

This position may be based in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, or South Dakota. We are open to considering both full-time and part-time candidates.

Main Responsibilities:

  • * Strong knowledge of paving equipment including pavers, rollers, and plant operations.
  • * Comprehensive understanding of paving and compaction processes.
  • * General understanding of asphalt mix design principles.
  • * Strong ability to diagnose field quality issues quickly and apply corrective action.
  • * Excellent communication and coaching skills; able to influence crews effectively.
  • * Ability to work independently in field conditions with minimal supervision.
  • * Understanding of relevant standards and specifications associated with paving and QC.
  • * Strong computer proficiency using Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and mobile apps.
Physical Requirements:
  • * Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required.
  • * Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects and to write or use a keyboard and/or mobile device to document findings, analyze data, and complete essential reporting tasks.
  • * Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear) to exchange information, provide guidance, and coordinate with team members and operations.
  • * Regularly required to perform tasks requiring visual acuity to review documents, inspect materials, assess quality standards, and evaluate compliance requirements.
  • * Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks.
  • * Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, samples, or equipment necessary for quality evaluations.
  • * Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs.
  • * Occasionally exposed to typical construction site conditions, including dust, loud noise, and allweather conditions, to perform jobrelated inspections and assessments.
  • * Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • Compensation*: $95,000-$125,000 annually DOE
  • *Estimated target starting compensation; actual compensation to be determined based on assessment of an individual's qualifications, education, and experience relevant to the role.
  • Benefits: All full-time salary employees are eligible to participate in Simon benefits as defined in plan documents. Available benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, term life insurance, supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, 401K with company match, short and long-term disability, flexible spending plan, and education assistance. Other benefits include eight paid holidays, and access to available company discounts.
  • Other Compensation: Position may be eligible for consideration of annual bonus compensation; position eligible for assigned company vehicle; etc.
