Job summary

Simon is a leading construction and materials company engaged in heavy highway, municipal, and commercial projects across the western United States. The role is based in Gillette, WY, overseeing estimating and project management for multiple projects from bidding through execution.

The incumbent will collaborate with operations, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure on-time delivery and strong financial performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Willingness to travel to field locations and/or operate a company vehicle as needed
  • 5+ years of experience running heavy highway, municipal, and/or commercial construction projects

  • Lead estimating and project management for multiple construction projects.
  • Coordinate with operations, field leadership, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Oversee bid responses and approve estimating performed by the team.
  • Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR safety and reporting compliance.
  • Prepare time-phase charts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and schedules.
  • Lead pre-construction and progress meetings.
  • Mentor and develop staff in estimating and project management.

Job Summary

Leads the estimating and project management functions for multiple construction projects, overseeing project planning, bidding, execution, staffing, and financial performance. Works closely with operations, field leadership, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver safe, high-quality projects on time and within budget while driving continuous improvement and team development.

Main Responsibilities
  • Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company's core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
  • Hire, direct and coordinate activities of staff on estimating and project management team; manage employee training, mentoring, and development
  • Collaborate with management and provide relevant feedback regarding the performance of employees and the department
  • Perform estimating work and respond to bid requests in order to secure future projects; oversee and approve estimating performed by team
  • Coordinate with internal teams and subcontractors; communicate with engineers, inspectors, suppliers, etc. to ensure effective utilization of all resources in order to maximize profit/margin on construction projects
  • Lead pre‑construction and project status/progress meetings
  • Ensure the company complies OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulations and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with project managers and project engineers to ensure targets and deadlines are met
  • Oversee preparation and maintenance of time‑phase charts, subcontracts, purchase orders, material orders, and schedules
  • Review and approve decisions concerning equipment needs, sequence of operations, and required staffing
  • Maintain effective working relationships and effectively communicate with subcontractors and company business departments
  • Resolve client and vendor complaints in a timely and respectful fashion; ensure that the Company maintains a positive image and provides unrivaled services
  • Identify cost trends and lead efforts in cost reduction and process improvement
  • Meet with accounting and management team to review revenue goals and implement strategies on a regular basis
  • Compile data and produce reports; regularly present information to management
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Valid driver's license required to travel to field locations and/or operate a company vehicle. Must meet company motor vehicle eligibility requirements
Skills
  • 5+ years of experience running heavy highway, municipal, and/or commercial construction projects
  • 3+ years of experience working in a supervisory role preferred
  • HCSS, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and/or similar program experience
  • Proficiency in use of computers and mobile devices (Android/iOS), including MS Office programs required
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and develop others, define goals and objectives, and hold others accountable
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and solve complex problems
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and resolve problems
Physical Requirements
  • Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle documents, equipment, and materials needed to support office and field related operations
  • Regularly uses hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects, write, and operate a keyboard and/or mobile device to complete administrative tasks, documentation, and communication duties
  • Regularly communicates (talks and hears) and uses visual acuity to exchange information, coordinate work, and review documents and plans necessary for project oversight
  • Regularly operates a vehicle to travel to and from work sites to perform inspections, attend meetings, and support project activities
  • Regularly sits for long periods at a desk using a computer to perform administrative, planning, and reporting responsibilities
  • Frequently stands or works on feet for extended periods and walks across uneven terrain to navigate construction sites safely
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits, reaches, and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls to access work areas and complete required tasks
  • Frequently works in environments that may include loud noise, moving equipment, dust, or varying indoor/outdoor conditions depending on operational needs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and overtime; overnight travel may be required
