Business Unit Overview

8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a growing organization made up of businesses that produce and sell quality products including pasta, peanut butter, granola, and fruit and nut trail mixes to retail, foodservice, and ingredient customers. The company was formed in October 2018 through a combination of Post Holdings’ private brands businesses and is owned by Post Holdings and funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (“THL”), a private equity firm.


Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Starting at $22/hr, Friday-Monday, 5:30am-4pm ($1,000 Sign-on Bonus Available!)

The Silo Operator is an important role for our facility. This position adds value by monitoring product quality, and by using knowledge of systems (silo, accumulators) to maximize efficiencies of storage and conveying systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operate Smalley and Gough Econ line control systems to direct product from press to the correct silo/accumulator; and from the correct storage to the packaging machine. Communicate storage system status to Press Operators.
  2. Use Quality standards, SOPs, and product specification information to constantly monitor quality of all inbound and outbound product. Report problems to the Packaging Supervisors, Lab Technicians, and Press Operators in a timely manner to prevent waste.
  3. Track and log all current information on the Silo/Accumulator boards.
  4. Assist machine operators with short goods conveyor system and long goods conveyor system set-up in a timely manner.
  5. Maintain expected levels of sanitation in, and around, all areas of storage and conveying.
  6. Closely monitor silo/tier changes to avoid any mixed product, and ensure oversight of products results in control of allergens.
  7. Direct all regrind varieties to proper storage systems in the mill.
  8. Set stripper systems up to correctly cut product to customer specifications. Assist with preventive maintenance of all stripper, storage, and conveying systems in the department by serving as a technical expert to maintenance on operation systems.
  9. Partner with company leadership to proactively identify and execute on continuous improvement opportunities in the areas of: safety, food safety, quality, productivity, and sanitation.
  10. Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
  2. Must have previous experience operating a computer.
  3. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  1. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Ability to deal with multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  3. Must be willing to attain forklift operator certification.

Physical Requirements:

Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  1. Must be able to balance, stand, walk, and work in high heat/humidity for 8+ hours per shift.
  2. Must be able to bend, crouch, reach above shoulders, and work in a dusty environment for 6+ hours per shift.
  3. Must be able to kneel, sit, and stoop for 3+ hours per shift.
  4. Must be able to climb and work off a ladder for 3+ hours per shift.
  5. Must be able to work in a confined space for 3+ hours per shift.
  6. Must be able to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling for 3+ hours per shift.
  7. Must be able to perform fine manipulation with hands, and feel with hands, for 6+ hours per shift.
  8. Must be able to lift up to 34 pounds for 8 hours per shift.
  9. Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds for 6 hours per shift.
  10. Must be able to make fine distinctions in sound, distinguish objects and equipment visually, and express or exchange ideas by spoken or written word.
