Work Schedule: This position will average 30-32 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexible work hours between 7:30 am - 3:00 pm, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a year. However, this work schedule may vary due to operational needs.

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12-month period.
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:

This employee will be responsible for performing various assigned duties. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Loading and unloading sign materials and debris on and off of trucks.
  • Ability to safely operate an assortment of tools. Hand, battery, gas, & hydraulic powered tools used in the maintenance and repair of traffic signs.
  • Assists with maintaining records in a computerized work management system by recording work activities, inventory, materials, and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of GDOT assets.
  • Have a Valid Driver's License and the ability to operate a City vehicle that may pull a small trailer carrying various equipment and tools such as battery-powered hedgers, pole saws, chainsaws, and other landscape tools to clear sight obstructions.
  • Capable of working outside in all types of weather for prolonged periods in unpleasant conditions in and around motor vehicle traffic.
  • The employee must demonstrate a team-oriented work ethics, good time management skills, & work independently on projects.
  • Assists with setting up work zones, detours, flagging operations & street closures for special events, emergencies, flooding, etc.
  • Assists with the installation and fabrication of traffic signs as needed

The physical duties include but are not limited to walking, kneeling, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods, climbing on ladders, stooping, crawling, lifting up to 100 lbs. and carrying moderated to heavy materials with assistance. Must have Ability to follow written and oral instructions and finish assigned tasks.

This job is Non-Exempt under FLSA.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience setting up work zones, detours, flagging operations, and street closures
  • Experience with computer data entry
  • Hands-on mechanical repair experience
