About The Position

The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified applicants to apply for the Sign Maker position. This position performs specialized work in the design, fabrication, installation and maintenance of signage and graphics throughout the Aviation and Public Works departments.

THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 150 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED. This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Employee Services. Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time experience in the fabrication, repair, and installation of signs AND one (1) year of professional experience in designing with vector graphics software for use with plotters and wide-format printers. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work with exposure to potentially hazardous sign making substances and solvents.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted and maintain a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.

Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment and to drive to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work from aerial equipment for extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Creates print-ready artwork using vector graphics software for use with large format printers and laser engravers.
• Performs digital pre-press for client files.
• Consults with in-house clients to determine client requirements for the creation, fabrication and installation of training materials, visual aids, signage, maps, and other graphic representations.
• Monitors advances in the field of signage and recommends hardware, software and materials purchases as appropriate.
• Understands and applies signage and design fundamentals while following Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signage guidelines and regulations.
• Performs skilled work in the preparation, maintenance, repair, and installation of different types of signs on streets, buildings, fixtures, elevators, stairways, parking facilities, vehicles, and perimeter fences.
• Prepares, modifies, and relocates signs as specified by work order.
• Engraves desk name plates and special awards.
• Maintains fleet decals.
• Estimates materials, parts, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments.
• Orders and picks-up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate.
• Maintains an inventory of materials and supplies.
• Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

• Maintains records of work performed and materials used.
• Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives County vehicles to work sites, transports materials and assistants to work sites; works from a boom lift, scissor lift, forklift or ladder.

Additionally In The Department Of Aviation

• Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Sign Systems Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5340-18G, and all Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requirements, which includes operational signage design, fabrication and installation processes be immediately executed when directed by the agencies having jurisdiction to ensure current regulatory messaging, airport safety and security at all ticket counters, gate podiums, as well as within airport operational areas ensuring the safety of all aircraft, vehicles and equipment entering or exiting the airport ramps and movement areas.
• Collaborates with all Department of Aviation divisions on the design and fabrication of signage and props for numerous Airport events.
