Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and professional Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a school-based setting in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. This role offers interpreters the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting communication access and educational success for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering inclusive learning environments and collaborating with educational teams to ensure students receive equal access to classroom instruction, activities, and services.

Location: Moncks Corner, SC

Schedule: Full-time, school-based

Key Responsibilities

• Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for students during classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and related educational settings.
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
• Support student access to academic content and classroom participation.
• Interpret in a variety of educational settings, including individual, small group, and classroom environments.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with educational and ethical standards.
• Assist with promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate service documentation as required by the district.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
• Educational interpreting experience preferred.
• Relevant interpreting certification preferred (RID, EIPA, or state-specific credentials).
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary educational team.
• Knowledge of educational terminology and school-based environments preferred.
