Birch Agency is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in Flint, MI. The role focuses on accurate ASL-English interpretation in classrooms, meetings, and school events to ensure comprehension and access to instruction.

Ideal candidates will collaborate with teachers and families, maintain confidentiality, and uphold ethical standards while fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes student success.

Qualifications

• Valid Sign Language Interpreter certification and/or state-required credentials.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpretation within educational settings.
• Ability to meet all state and district requirements for educational interpreters.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, professional interpretation services between spoken English and ASL for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
• Facilitate communication during classroom instruction, meetings, assessments, extracurricular activities, and school events.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families to support student access to instruction.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreting standards and ethical guidelines.
• Support students’ educational, social, and communication needs while promoting independence.
• Assist in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate documentation and participate in team meetings as required.

Pay Rate: $40.00/hr

Birch Agency is seeking a passionate Sign Language Interpreter to support students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in educational settings. The ideal candidate will provide accurate and effective interpreting services, facilitate communication between students and staff, collaborate with educational teams and families, and help create an inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social development, and student success.

Required Qualifications
