Job description

About Annapolis Area Christian School

Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) is a Christ-centered independent school serving students from Kindergarten through 12th grade across four campuses in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Starting this coming school year, AACS will enter an exciting new chapter as our middle and high school programs unite on our 85-acre campus in Severn, Maryland, bringing students in grades 6–12 together on one campus. This transition will strengthen alignment across academics, arts, and athletics while expanding opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and community.

AACS partners with families and local churches to educate and disciple students in a Christ-centered environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, spiritual formation, and excellence in every area of life.

Athletics plays a vital role in that mission. We believe sport is a powerful space for developing character, resilience, discipline, and leadership.

*All Coaches must profess faith in Jesus Christ and be actively involved in a local church.

Program Vision

Our cheer program is committed to:

  • Elite training and long-term player development

  • Spiritual formation through sport

  • Alignment across middle school and high school athletes

  • Collaboration across other coaches, families, and the broader school community

We believe talent is a gift entrusted to us by God. Our responsibility is to steward those gifts faithfully while developing young men who pursue excellence in every arena of life.

Our goal is not simply to cheer at games, but to form young women who pursue excellence, humility, and perseverance in every arena of life.

Role Overview

Our cheer coach must demonstrate strong technical knowledge of cheerleading and safety, a developmental mindset, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with players and families.

This coach is expected to build and sustain a sideline cheer program, not simply manage a team for a season.

Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership
  • Lead and develop the Sideline Cheer program

  • Establish and maintain a strong culture aligned with the mission of the school

  • Collaborative mindset with the department, school, and other coaches is a non-negotiable. We are a community, not individual programs on our own.

  • Build relationships with local clubs and recreational programs to connect our students to

Player Development
  • Design and implement training sessions emphasizing technical growth, tactical understanding, and character formation

  • Foster an environment of disciplined training and continuous improvement

  • Support multi-sport athletes and encourage balanced student development

Program Collaboration

Work closely with the Assistant Athletic Director on:

  • Game scheduling guidance

  • Player development pathways

  • College recruitment advising for families

  • Off-season training opportunities and camps

Community Partnership
  • Build strong relationships with players and their families

  • Partner with families and local churches in the development of student-athletes

  • Contribute to a unified school culture where athletics, arts, and academics support one another

Athletic Department Integration
  • Collaborate with coaches and staff; our department functions as a community, not in silos

  • Uphold in-season strength and conditioning participation

  • Encourage optional off-season development opportunities

In-Season Commitment
  • Season: Nov 1 – March 1

  • Training: Tuesday & Thursday, 3:00–4:30 PM

  • Games: Friday night home basketball games during the basketball season

Program expectations include:

  • No Saturday or Sunday games or practices

Facilities & Resources

Our 85-acre Severn campus provides resources designed to support the growth and development of student-athletes, including:

  • Indoor turf field house for year-round training

  • On-site performance training center and weight room

  • Two athletic trainers dedicated to student-athlete care

  • School nurse on campus

  • Partnerships with local physicians and sports medicine providers

  • On-campus Bermuda grass fields

The school is also working toward developing a future on-campus stadium.

All athletic teams participate in a structured in-season strength and conditioning program, with optional year-round development opportunities available for athletes who wish to continue training.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated technical and tactical expertise in cheer coaching

  • Prior coaching experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred

  • Coaching certifications or willingness to obtain them

  • Ability to mentor young athletes and cultivate meaningful relationships with families

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

  • Willingness to drive a school mini-bus (standard driver’s license required)

  • Commitment to strict child protection policies and safety protocols

Faith Requirements

Because faith is foundational to the mission of our school, candidates must:

  • Be an active member of a local Christian church

  • Affirm and sign the school’s Statement of Faith

  • Demonstrate a life consistent with Christian leadership and discipleship

Our coaches model perseverance, humility, and faith for the young women entrusted to our care.
