Job summary

Spokane International Academy is seeking an experienced nurse to oversee student health and well-being. The role reports to the Director of Operations. The nurse will manage direct care, emergency responses, medication administration, and health program coordination for students aged 5–18.

Requirements include RN preferred with licensure in Washington (or equivalent), and a minimum of 3 years of pediatric nursing or medical experience. LPN/CNA/MA acceptable.

Qualifications

  • RN preferred, but may be an LPN, CNA, or Medical Assistant.
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing or medical experience with children aged 5–18.
  • Must hold a valid licensure in Washington state.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Student Care & Case Management: identify needs and implement plans.
  • Emergency Response: develop and execute emergency action plans for at-risk students.
  • Medication & Procedures: administer medications and monitor students with health needs (IHPs).
  • Clinical Appraisals: provide health assessments for identified health problems.
  • Health Program Coordination: ensure immunization reviews and documentation standards.
  • Disease Control: monitor communicable disease prevention and outbreak protocols.
  • Training: develop and provide staff training for medication administration and First Aid/CPR (RN only).
  • Liaison: act as bridge between school, families, and health providers.
  • Consultation: serve as health consultant for IEP/504 meetings (RN only).
  • Supervision: reports to Director of Operations.

Job description

Spokane International Academy is seeking an experienced nurse to oversee the health and well being of our student population. The position requires a self-motivated, team-oriented professional who truly enjoys working with young people and values education. This person will report directly to the Director of Operations.

Spokane International Academy is a rigorous K-12th grade international school that empowers all students with the academic skills, essential habits for success and global competence necessary to completed advanced courses in high school and a four-year college degree in order to become leaders who can powerfully transform their communities.

Essential Functions

Direct Student Care & Case Management

  • Identify and Assess: Recognize health care needs within the student population and implement plans to meet them.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and execute emergency action plans for students at risk of medical crises.
  • Medication & Procedures: Administer medications as needed and monitor students requiring invasive procedures or health-related classroom adaptations (IHPs).
  • Clinical Appraisals: Provide periodic health appraisals for students with identified or suspected health problems.

Health Program Coordination

  • Compliance: Ensure the school adheres to mandated health services, including immunization reviews and professional documentation standards.
  • Disease Control: Monitor and manage communicable disease prevention and outbreak protocols.
  • Training: Develop and provide staff training for medication administration, diabetic care management, and First Aid/CPR. (RN only)

Collaboration & Advocacy

  • Liaison: Act as the bridge between the school, families, and local health providers to ensure optimal student wellness.

Consultation: Serve as a health consultant for school personnel and participate in IEP or Section 504 multidisciplinary team meetings. (RN only)

Supervision

This position works towards a common operational goal and reports directly to the Director of Operations.

Job Qualifications
  • Education: RN preferred, but may be an LPN, CNA, or Medical Assistant.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of nursing or medical experience with children and adolescents (ages 5–18) is highly recommended.

Licensure: Must hold valid certification/licensure applicable to the role in Washington state.
