POSITION SUMMARY

The Shuttle Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely pick up and drop off of Culinary Institute of America (CIA) students to and from off-site housing facilities to the Hyde Park campus. The driver will be operating a 12 passenger bus, owned and maintained by the CIA. It is the responsibility of the driver to guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide transportation to CIA students to and from off-campus housing.
  • Operate the vehicle in such a manner that road and safety regulations are always followed; reports traffic violations and/or accidents to the Associate Dean – Housing Operations.
  • Manage transportation schedules based on a predetermined schedule.
  • Ensure all passengers are seated properly and strictly follow the passenger limits.
  • Perform vehicle pre-trip inspections, including but not limited to ensuring that the bus is properly fueled and well-maintained.
  • Evacuate passengers according to written and practiced procedures in case of accidents/emergencies.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience :

  • Minimum of six (6) months of group transportation driving experience required; commercial, municipal or school bus, group van transport or airport limousine service.

Licenses / Certifications :

  • Valid New York State Class D Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Clear driving record is required.

Should you be charged with any infractions at any time in the future that may impact your eligibility to maintain these licenses in good standing, you must immediately report the issue to your supervisor and/or Human Resources. Failure to immediately report any issue will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination or employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years of group transportation driving experience strongly desired; commercial, municipal or school bus, group van transport or airport limousine service.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to effectively communicate; good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable and dependable.
  • Demonstrated ability to show a high level of service responsiveness to customers.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and discretion.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work overtime on nights and weekends as required by business needs. Ability to frequently lift and carry 30 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Regular work requires a great deal of sitting for extended periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop or reach as needed.
