Job summary

National Shunt Service is hiring yard switchers to support our growing team at multiple US locations, including Bloomfield, CT. You will move trailers, coordinate with dispatch, inspect equipment, and follow safety procedures as part of a dedicated yard team.

Qualified candidates have a Class A CDL and at least one year on a yard truck, plus familiarity with fleet software and tablets. This is a full-time role with opportunities for advancement and a strong work/life balance.

Qualifications

• Must have Class A CDL.
• At least one year of yard truck or double axle experience.
• Pass a yard driving test, background check, and drug test.
• Experience with tablets and fleet software.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Safety-focused attitude and reliability.
• Refrigerated trailer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently move trailers in and out of dock doors and between facilities.
• Maintain routine communication with dispatch/yard control on trailer placement.
• Inspect shunt truck daily, report repairs to regional manager.
• Use proprietary software to receive and complete moves as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines at all times.
• Inspect trailers and assist with yard operations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Missouri: Kansas City, St. Louis
• New Jersey: Cranbury, Newark
• Ohio: Columbus, Luckey, Monroe
• Texas: Houston

Position Description

• Safely and efficiently move trailers in and out of dock doors, within and between facility buildings
• Maintain routine communication with dispatch/yard control regarding the placement of trailers both in door and in the drop lot
• Daily inspection of shunt truck, monitoring truck condition, and communication with a regional manager when repair(s) is/are required
• Utilize our proprietary software to receive and complete moves on an as‑needed basis
• Maintain a clean and tidy workplace
• Continuously follow safe operating procedures
• Inspect trailers
• Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

• Have and maintain a Class A CDL
• At least one year of driving a yard truck or double axle
• Must pass a yard driving test, background check, and drug test
• Experience with software and using devices such as tablets and smart phones
• Experience with computer software and programs
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Believe that the safe way is the right way
• Willing to work hard
• Experience with refrigerated trailers preferred
