  • Experience with heavy machinery, recycling equipment, or similar systems preferred.
  • Welding and fabrication experience (MIG/TIG/stick) preferred.

The Shredder Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial metal shredding equipment and related systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This position performs preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and works closely with operations and maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime.

The role requires strong mechanical ability, attention to safety, and hands‑on experience working with heavy industrial equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on industrial shredders and associated equipment.

Inspect and maintain motors, bearings, belts, conveyors, blades, drives, and other mechanical components.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.

Troubleshoot and repair electrical components, including wiring, sensors, motor controls, and related control systems.

Assist with troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other industrial control systems as qualified.

Inspect, service, and repair hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, and related components.

Inspect and maintain pneumatic systems and associated components.

Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and repair work as required.

Inspect, maintain, and repair conveyor systems associated with shredder operations.

Respond promptly to equipment failures and assist with restoring equipment to safe operating condition.

Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance to help prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life.

Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures before performing maintenance or repairs.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used.

Monitor equipment condition and identify potential maintenance needs before failures occur.

Communicate equipment issues, repair needs, and safety concerns to the appropriate manager.

Coordinate maintenance activities with operations personnel to minimize production interruptions.

Assist with maintaining an organized inventory of commonly used maintenance parts and supplies.

Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Technical training or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, electrical systems, welding, or a related field preferred.

Three (3) to five (5) years of industrial equipment maintenance experience preferred.

Experience working with heavy machinery, recycling equipment, manufacturing equipment, or similar industrial systems preferred.

Previous experience with industrial shredders or related recycling equipment is a plus.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, sensors, wiring, and controls preferred.

Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting is preferred.

Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Welding and fabrication experience, including MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding, preferred.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, and other maintenance tools.

Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, diagrams, schematics, and maintenance instructions.

Forklift, rigging, OSHA, electrical, hydraulic, or other relevant industrial certifications are preferred.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.

Must be able to successfully complete company‑required pre‑employment screening.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, climb, and perform physical maintenance work for extended periods.

Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds as required.

Ability to safely climb ladders, platforms, and equipment as needed to perform inspections and repairs.

Ability to work at heights when required.

Ability to work in confined spaces when properly trained, authorized, and following applicable safety procedures.

Ability to safely work around heavy machinery, moving equipment, scrap metal, conveyors, and industrial processing systems.

Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.

Work environment may include exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, heat, grease, metal debris, and other conditions commonly associated with industrial recycling operations.

Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
