Ottenweller Company seeks a Shot Blast Operator for 2nd shift in Fort Wayne, IN. You will select grinding abrasives, operate grinders, and polish surfaces to produce unmarred parts. The role includes setup, inspection per blueprint, and light maintenance of equipment.

Strong reading, arithmetic, and reasoning abilities are required, with a high school diploma or GED. Prior manufacturing exposure is preferred; this is a full-time on-site position with an equal opportunity employer environment.

Responsibilities

  • Selects abrasive type and attaches to grinder based on specs.
  • Operates hand-held grinder to remove scratches, burrs, and excess weld material.
  • Deslags and polishes to achieve a smooth, unmarred surface.
  • Sets up and operates grinding machines; loads parts and runs them.
  • Performs first-piece and in-process inspection per blueprint using a tape measure.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on grinding equipment and logs activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

Shot Blast Operator - 2nd shift (Fort Wayne, IN)

Selects type of hand-held grinding equipment to be used and selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal and attaches to grinder.

Operates hand-held grinder and moves it over surface of workpiece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burrs.

Deslags parts and polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarred surface.

Sets up and operates grinding machines by setting controls, placing parts into machine, starting machine, and running parts.

Performs first-piece and in-process inspection by checking dimensions of part per blueprint using tape measure or appropriate alternate. Inspects parts according to C=0 chart. Completes inspection form.

Performs preventative maintenance on grinding equipment, including but not limited to replacing worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts, greasing and cleaning machines, and checking water and coolant levels. Completes maintenance log.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; previous manufacturing experience and/or training preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
