Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line in Louisville, KY / Cincinnati, OH seeks a Shore Tankerman to oversee safe liquid cargo transfers between shore facilities and vessels. You will operate transfer equipment, follow safety and environmental procedures, and maintain accurate transfer records.

The role requires coordination with vessel crews and terminal staff, adherence to regulations, and readiness to respond to emergencies on an on-call basis; prior USCG Tankerman PIC endorsement is essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold and maintain an MMD Tankerman PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids endorsement (USCG).
• Must complete benzene physical and respirator fit testing annually.
• Must read/write to complete Declaration of Inspection and other documents.
• Must be able to read, write and understand English as required by USCG CFR.
• Must perform barge inspections, audits and repairs when not transferring cargo.
• Must operate gas meters (PHD lite) including maintenance and calibration.

Responsibilities

• Perform cargo transfer operations safely and efficiently between vessels and shore tanks.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements to protect personnel, equipment and environment during transfers.
• Operate and maintain transfer equipment, hoses, pumps, and valves to prevent downtime.
• Keep accurate records of cargo transfer, including quantity, quality and incidents.
• Coordinate with vessel crews, shore personnel and terminal operators to resolve operational challenges.
• Respond to emergencies and follow procedures to minimize risk and protect people and assets.
• Implement environmental protection measures to prevent spills and minimize impact.
• Follow pre-transfer inspection, declare inspection and conference requirements.
• Perform minor repairs to barge equipment.
