Job summary

ButcherBox is seeking a hands-on technical leader to own the technical health and direction of our Shopify storefront. You will set standards for our web developers, stay deep in the code, and partner with PMs, designers, our engineering and data teams, and our external agency and partners (Shopify and Recharge) to keep the customer-facing experience fast, maintainable, and evolving with the platform. Fosters leadership in others.

Leads cross-functional projects. Champions company culture.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of web development experience, with substantial time in Shopify/Liquid.
• Experience with Recharge or other large Shopify partners.
• Demonstrated technical leadership on a team: you've owned architecture, set standards, reviewed others' code, and raised the level of the developers around you.
• Pragmatic, maintainable approach: extend the theme and its conventions rather than over-engineering.
• Experience working with external agency partners and maintaining a quality bar with people who don't report to you.
• Clear communication with non-engineers: explain tradeoffs to a PM or designer.
• Collaborative and comfortable in an agile cadence, shipping through a PR review process.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and architecture of the Shopify/Liquid theme and storefront.
• Act as Tech Lead for our internal web developers: review PRs, set guidelines, and provide technical direction.
• Stay hands-on: build features, tackle hard tickets, and prototype approaches.
• Manage the technical relationship with third parties, including design and development agency partners.
• Stay current with the evolution of the Shopify platform and drive internal adoption of new capabilities.
• Work with internal engineering and data teams where storefront meets the broader stack.
• Partner with product management to help design, scope, and validate product direction.
• Translate between technical and business, collaborating with e-commerce, marketing, design, and data teams on launches and experiments.
• Work closely with backend engineering across projects.
