Wells Concrete is seeking a Welding Intern to support fabrication and welding operations in a production setting. You will assist with cutting, bending, and assembling metal components under the guidance of experienced welders, gaining hands-on skills and safety practices.

The role emphasizes learning welding and fabrication processes, reading blueprints, and developing technical abilities while contributing to a safe, efficient shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or recently completed welding/fabrication program.
  • Basic understanding of welding and fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints (with guidance).
  • Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist welders and fabricators with fitting, aligning, and welding components.
  • Support moving materials using hoists, cranes, or manual handling (under supervision).
  • Help read and interpret blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Perform basic welds and tack welds with guidance.
  • Use measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy.
  • Assist with grinding, cutting, beveling, and surface preparation.
  • Support setup and operation of fabrication equipment (brakes, shears, grinders, etc.).
  • Help mark and prepare materials for cutting and bending.
  • Assist with lifting, positioning, and aligning parts for assembly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Welding Intern supports fabrication and welding operations while gaining hands‑on experience in a production environment. This role assists with cutting, bending, and assembling metal components under the guidance of experienced welders. The intern will develop technical skills, learn safety practices, and build a foundational understanding of welding and fabrication processes.

Salary range $24/Hour.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is motivated to learn and build a career in welding or fabrication. They are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a hands‑on shop environment. This individual takes direction well, shows initiative, and is eager to develop technical skills through on-the-job training.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a welding/fabrication program
  • Basic understanding of welding and fabrication processes
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints (with guidance)
  • Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers
  • Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions
  • Ability to work safely in a hands‑on, physical environment
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors (Depending on location)
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
