SHOP WELDERS FOR HEAVY STEEL AND ALUMINUM MANUFACTURER IN NORTHERN UTAH
Responsibilities
Scope of Work: Shop welders for heavy steel and aluminum. Candidates will be tested before starting; if they cannot pass, the test time is nonpay. The client will review the time it takes to pass.
Job Summary: Skilled and experienced welder for manufacturing/fabrication shop team. Candidates should have a strong background in various welding techniques, metal fabrication, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints. This position requires a high level of precision, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to produce high-quality fabricated metal components.
Qualifications
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and on time
- Open to occasional overtime and weekend work
- Willing to learn and become a journeyman welder through HHI Corporation’s apprenticeship program
- Comply with company and OSHA safety regulations
- Use and understand all required safety equipment
- Maintain a safe work area and identify/correct hazards
- Operate welding tools (grinders, torches, plasma cutters), cranes, and lifting equipment including proper rigging
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Work in non-temperature-controlled environments
- Perform frequent bending, squatting, climbing
- Stand for extended periods
- Pass drug and background screening
- Operate shop equipment for extended periods
- Work with arms above head

- Communicate professionally and courteously
- Follow directions and work well in a team
- Work independently in a safe and professional manner
- Support training and mentor other welders
- Willing to learn and improve welding skills and processes
Technical Skills & Experience:
- 5 years of welding experience
- Understand welding symbols
- Operate forklifts (training included)
- Perform cleaning procedures and replace consumables
- Read and follow welding procedure specifications
- Effectively produce structural steel, CJP, and fillet welds in all positions using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW-G processes
- Qualify in AWS D1.1 structural steel testing in all positions
- Set up and operate air carbon arc gouging, plasma cutting, and mechanical/manual cutting devices
- Use measuring tools and gauges to verify weld dimensions
- Read and interpret blueprints, including plan, isometric, and sectional views
- Take measurements and lay out workpieces from drawings
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS certification
- Forklift, boom lift, scissor lift certification
- Understanding different metal types
- Additional AWS qualification tests (D1.2, D1.3, D1.6, D1.2 aluminum, D1.3 sheet steel, D1.6 stainless steel)
Additional Information
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Must effectively communicate daily/weekly with tradesmen rep and client supervisor
- Must be able to log hours via phone app for weekly approval
